The whole family is around the table, everyone is in a festive mood and your little pooch looks at you (or at Aunt Anna) with those puppy eyes… it’s all too tempting to slip a piece of turkey or some stuffing under the table for Bella or Max.
Thanksgiving tends to coincide with an uptick in vet visits, so what can you do to keep your fur baby safe? Here are some tasty treats that you are safe to share with your dog or cat, in small portions:
- Raw apple (not the core / seeds)
- Sweet potatoe (boiled or baked, without any additions)
- Green beans (without spices or salt)
- Pumpkin (cooked, without spices)
- Carrots
- Celery
- Rice
- Quinoa
Many Thanksgiving dishes are not healthy for pets to consume. Here are just a few of the foods that you should not give to Bella or Max. These could get them really sick (kidney failure, pancreatitis, just to name a few) because they’re unhealthy or even toxic:
- Ham
- Chocolate
- Garlic
- Raisins / grapes
- Leek
- Onions
- Raw or mashed potatoes
- Raw dough
- Canned cranberry
- Desserts
- Pie filling
- Stuffing
